How at Home Are You in Your Body?

How do you feel about your body? Do you love your body? Is there shame? Are there concerns?, how much joy do you take in your physical form?

Most of us have some negative feelings, niggles, or dissatisfactions about some aspect of our bodies; too big, not big enough, too fat, not strong enough, wrong shape etc.

Flicking through a magazine or on-line pages it seems ubiquitous that we fret and worry not only about how we look, but also how we are caring for our bodies, are we sleeping enough, getting enough exercise, eating the right nutrients, etc.

In modern times our relationship with our bodies is very much on the agenda and yet the outcome of this focus seems to be an increasing alienation from our bodies; a loss of connection or a failure to inhabit our bodies fully.  Much of this is fuelled by consumerism and advertising. Traditionally women have been the main targets for this but now men are equally encouraged to worry about their looks, their performance, and their health.

I have been exploring my relationship with my body for many years. Being a woman, being a woman with a propensity to carry extra weight, I had plenty to be dissatisfied with or fret about and there was plenty of encouragement from women’s magazines to do so!!

Yoga, conscious dancing, Neo Tantra, Conscious Sexuality and Meditation, have all been a part of my journey in coming home to my body and loving my physical self.

I have been studying and beginning to offer Systemic Family Systems Constellations in recent years and a few months ago I attended an extra training specifically about exploring the relationship with one’s body; the body as home for your soul, with Constellations.  This opened up a whole new level of conversation with my body as a whole and then with specific parts and even internal organs.

I came away with a new respect and awe for my body, a new friendliness.  I felt a new tenderness in how I inhabit my body, a deeper appreciation and dare I say it, love. My body is not my enemy, and I’m sad to say that sometimes I had felt that it was, when it would not behave as I wished, when I felt it had let me down, or was not good enough (thin enough, smooth enough).  It was not enough, even though I fretted that there was rather too much of it!

Working with Systemic Constellations to explore your body, and your relationship with your body, offers you a truly fresh perspective. This systemic lens offers an opportunity to allow your body to speak to you, a space for you to listen and hear what your body is saying. This is deep work and can be transformative.

Participants at my debut workshop some months ago explored their relationships with their nervous system, their penis, their nose, their visceral fat, to name but a few. I am deeply moved by the impact of this work and excited about what it can offer.

I am delighted to be offering this workshop in May in both Bristol and Swansea.  Dates coming soon.
